| Message from the President... |
| 1/1/2008 2:17:58 PM |
|
With tryouts and the draft right around
the corner, I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a
Happy New Season…as in baseball! There are approximately 450 players
signed up for the 2008 season of Land Park Pacific Little League and I
am looking forward to seeing all of you in the coming months. The
majority of our registrations were done online this year, making life
much easier for all of us dealing with tryouts, teams, and coaches.
It always seems like it is this time of year that I pause, reflect and
set some goals for the coming year. Our League closed out 2007 fiscally
fit and we are setting money aside for a Dooley Field Trust Fund so that
future LPP Boards will be able to fully renovate both fields. All of the
LPP divisions had competitive playoffs—no one team dominated, the Major
Division had an exciting League Championship Tournament, our AAA
Division Champions won the 2007 District 7 Minors Tournament of
Champions, our Major All-Stars and 9-10 year-old All-Stars won their
respective District 7 Championships and in July our League hosted the
11-year-old All-Star Section 4 Tournament at Dooley. I truly wish all of
you could have heard the praise and “field envy” that were passed on to
us from the teams playing at Dooley from throughout the Sacramento
region. It is because of our ongoing community partnership with Holy
Spirit Church that our home field, Dooley, is known as one of the best
Little League parks in our region. LPP truly appreciates all that Holy
Spirit Church does to help foster leadership and community pride through
Little League baseball at Dooley Field. I also want to thank the 2007
LPP Board of Directors, the Managers, Coaches, Team Parents, our
generous sponsors and those of you who go above and beyond your busy
lives to help make our League all that it is.
2008 has a lot in store for LPP, we have added Softball to our line-up
and I hope this will be the first of many great seasons to come. We plan
to have the irrigation system and fields reinvigorated by Opening Day,
March 29th. Tryouts will be the January 12th, 19th and 26th. We will not
be able to register any players during try-outs so if you know of anyone
who is not registered, please tell them to go to the website
immediately, www.lppll.com and get registered. The League is looking for
people with carpentry or construction skills to help replace the wood in
the backstops and dugouts. Please email me at Ssmith@lppll.com if you
can help with these projects. If anyone knows of a company who could
work with our League on the materials as well, please let me know.
Finally, I want to remind everyone to look at the League Blog
www.lppll.com if you have any questions about weather conditions and
League activities (tryouts, games, events) – we update the blog
instantly. If there is no posting, please assume the activity will go
ahead as scheduled. As a parent, I know how important it is to keep our
children active and involved. Little League forges friendships and
memories that last a lifetime. 2008 will bring the final season for our
family at Dooley and we will savor every moment of it. I can only hope
LPP brings you and your family as many wonderful memories as it has for
us. Just remember…it’s not where you start but where you finish that
truly counts.
Best wishes for a happy new baseball
season,
Shawn B. Smith, President

The stars were not aligned for Land Park Pacific Little League tonight. The 12-year-olds lost their bid for a Section 4 Title to a very good Sunrise Little League team. LPP had a great run though and these kids can hold their heads high. They have made their community proud. As President (attempting to fill-in and lift the very big pen of our Information Officer) it has been a privilege to have watched these boys develop into fine ballplayers over the past eight seasons. This is a team that has started a winning tradition at Land Park Pacific Little League when they won the 2005 District 7 9/10 All-Stars crown. They were an absolute joy to watch throughout the District and Section Tournaments. Hopefully the heartache of this last game will fade and the only thing left will be fond memories of their times spent playing ball at Dooley Field.
Great job All-Stars:
Aaron Amaro,
Robert Belme,
Ben Edelstein,
Nico Frank,
Carter Giroux,
Austin Guillen,
Kevin Krause,
DJ Mico,
Nick Modar,
Dominic Nunez,
Liam Olson-Kenny,
Derek Taylor,
Kyle Wing,
Julian Woodfork
And let’s not forget the coaching staff that got them there: Coach Charlie Barr, Coach Chip Krause, and Manager Manuel Nunez. Job well done!

A Little Glitch In The Galaxy… Our LPP All Stars went nine innings in an incredible baseball battle tonight, losing to Sunrise Little League, 7 – 4. LPP saw solid pitching from Derek Taylor, Kevin Krause, Nick Modar and Dom Nunez. The score remained 2 – 2 until the third when a kid(?), (I swear I saw him having his Senior portrait taken last week), fired off a two-run homer putting Sunrise ahead 4 -2. LPP battled back to even up the score and it remained 4 – 4 until the top of the ninth when the Man-Child clobbered another three-run homer. Good LPP bats included: DT (Derek Taylor), Kevin Krause, DJ Mico and Carter Giroux, unfortunately we just couldn’t get the runs to materialize. Two ESPN worthy plays tonight: 1) a hard shot into the hole at short, scooped up nicely by Dom and when the throw was in the dirt, First Baseman Nick Modar did a rubberman-like stretch and dug out the ball to complete the play; and, 2) an incredible snag by Pitcher Kevin Krause who was knocked off his cleats by the shot fired from the Sunrise bat. LPP will play Sunrise again tomorrow for the Section 4 Championship, 7pm at Tri-City in Rocklin—it’s winner takes all. Come on up and cheer our team on to victory!

Living The Life Of An All-Star… Being part of an All-Star Team is kind of like parenting, you can never truly appreciate what it takes until you live it yourself.
The community of Land Park Pacific takes great pride in our Little League—our players, our families, and that wonderful home of ours, Dooley Field. It is a great honor to be selected as an LPP All-Star, they are our League Olympians and each time they take the field as an LPP All-Star they are representing our entire community.
This year we were blessed with a team we have dubbed the “9/10ers” and LPP has gotten to know and love each and every one of them. These kids made huge sacrifices to remain committed to their team and their community, they worked hard and they were rewarded with the District 7 Championship title.
Bringing home a District Championship banner is a huge thing in Little League baseball. When we host tournaments we proudly fly those banners to represent the strength of our program—our players, our coaches and our League. Everyone notices when you succeed but they usually don’t understand what it takes to get there.
LPP has been incredibly proud of the 9/10ers—the little team with a huge heart, their coaching staff and their families who spent many a night on a baseball field, eating late and juggling work in order to be at each game to cheer the kids on. That’s what it takes to be an All-Star and the parent of an All-Star—it’s not a part-time commitment.
Last night the 9/10ers lost their bid for the Sectional title to a big and powerful team from Granite Bay (Lakeside Little League). The LPP community feels the heartbreak of the loss but it in no way diminishes the pride we have in our 9/10ers.
If you had the opportunity to see this team play you know how bonded they are as a team both on and off the field. We hope the lessons they have learned from their All-Star experience—the commitment, the drive, and most importantly, the friendships will last a lifetime.

01:37 AM
D.T. SAVES THE DAY… The evening did not start out well for our big guys—facing a tough Penn Valley pitcher our guys were anxious and not playing to their potential. Carter Giroux connected in the second with a solid double but we could not capitalize and LPP went down with two left on. In the third, Derek Taylor (AKA D.T.) blasted out a fence banging double but LPP could not bring it home and, once again, we were stranded with runners left on.
In the bottom of the third, Penn Valley hit a one run homer putting them on the boards and the score of LPP 0 – Penn Valley 1 remained until the fifth when Penn Valley went ahead with a four run lead. It was looking bleak for LPP but we were all reminded of that Golden Baseball Rule, “It’s never over til it’s over!” In the top of the sixth, Penn V. had to change pitchers and, thank the Baseball Gods, there were a few LPP walks.
Nick Modar came through with a crucial single, driving in another run making the score 4 – 2 with the bases loaded. And then came D.T.. What can I say, in a blink of an eye a rocket ship was launched from the bat of Derek Taylor and I don’t think that ball has hit terra firma yet.
The LPP fan club went wild. D.T. hit the big bonanza…a Grand Slam! The tide had turned and it was now LPP 6 – Penn Valley 4.
Pitcher Dom Nunez came in to close out the inning and sealed the deal with the final score LPP 6 – Penn Valley 4.
It’s been a long time since LPP has seen such an exciting game and it was even better because there were so many of the LPP alumni there to take it all in. Could there be any doubt in your mind who get’s the President’s Pick Award for outstanding play? D.T. saved the day for the LPP All Stars.
LPP will play for the Section Four All Star Championship,
Monday, July 23rd, 7 pm under the lights in Rocklin.

The 9/10ers Show Their Stars and Bats On Balls!
Those crazy kids we all know and love as the 9/10ers soundly defeated Citrus Heights tonight 7 - 4 in a game that lasted way past their bedtime. Pitching prowess was demonstrated by Dominic Smith, Aengus Nelson, Zane Janich and their closer, Noah “Trevor Hoffman” Tait. LPP came from behind after the first, tied it up in the third and just never looked back. The entire team showed a strong offense and a solid defense tonight and is ready for more.
Game three for those crazy 9/10ers is Saturday, 5:30 against Lakeside at Folsom. See the homepage for directions.

LPPLL 12-Year-Olds See Winning Stars!
Our LPPLL Major All Stars hung onto a hard fought game tonight defeating Sunrise Little League 5 – 4. Derek Taylor illuminated the ballpark with the power of the LPP pitching by going four straight shutout innings. Dom Nunez blasted a rocket over the fence in first and Nick Modar and Nico Frank both made timely hits to help tip the scales in favor of our Stars. The sixth inning needed the combined efforts of DJ Mico, Dom Nunez, and Kevin Krause to close ‘em down but our pitching persistence prevailed and we walked away with the win.
Next game, Saturday (under the lights) against Penn Valley --- come show your support, O Little Town of LPP, and cheer our kids on!

9/10er's Have A Momentary Setback...Our 9/10 year olds lost to West Sac last night 15-4 facing unbelievable pitching by the West Sac club. President's Pick for
outstanding performance goes to Michael Valli (3 for 3)and very honorable mentions for Aengus Nelson, Ian Allison and Noah Tait. Never fear All Stars, LPPLL is behind you all the way!
Watch these Stars shine at 7:30 tonight in Folsom. See homepage for directions.

Land Park Pacific’s 9/10 All Stars Shine…Tonight the 9/10 All-Star team won a hard fought battle defeating Cosumnes River Little League by a score of 7-6 to take the District 7 crown.
9/10er’s had to twice battle back from deficits: once down 3-0 and again from 5-3. However, they took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with Michael Valli hitting a home run shot out into the parking lot with what would prove to be the winning run. Michael pitched the final three innings keeping Cosumnes in check to
bring home the title.
Congratulations to the 9/10 coaches and players, well done LPPLL!
Sunday, July 15, 2007
04:01 PM
Yesterday the LPPLL Major All-Stars won the District 7 tournament hanging on to defeat Cosumnes River Little League by a score of 6-5. Yet another two-run home run from DJ Mico got the offense started. Ben Edelstein started off the pitching duties and kept Cosumnes at bay. Ben handed the pitching duties off to Derek Taylor who, fought off a determined Cosumnes River to save the victory for Land Park.
Congratulations players and coaches!
The 12 year-olds move on to the Section 4 tournament in Rocklin. Their first game will be
Friday, July 20th.
The 9/10 team lost a heartbreaker Saturday morning 10-9. They will try again to bring home the flag on Monday, 5:30 PM, out in Rancho Murrieta. Come out and cheer them on.
The 10/11 team was eliminated from play Saturday morning, losing 7-3. Cruz Alvarez-Machado provided some spark tying
up the game with a home run in the fourth inning but things “slipped” away in the top of the sixth.
You had a great run guys… keep your heads up.
Friday, July 13, 2007
07:13 AM
Last night was a successful night for LPPLL.with all three teams coming away with victories.
The 12-Year-Olds were able to extract a little “pay-back” from Cosumnes River LL defeating them 7-2 to advance to the District 7 Finals. Land Park got a fine pitching performance from Kevin Krause. KK also got to join the LPPLL Home Run Club, being the fourth player to go yard in the three games played. Way to flex your muscles guys!
The 12-Year-Olds will play for the championship on
Saturday, 12:00 Noon at Tahoe Tallac
The 9/10’ers also advanced to the District 7 Finals defeating East Sac in an exiting game. After spotting East Sac two runs in the first inning, LP came back to win 6-3. The kids got some nice defensive support from their left-handed shortstop Ian Allison. The pitching crew of Mike, Mike and “Hoffman” were again superb (being, of course, Michael Valli, Mike Hokama, and Noah Tait). But overall this was a total team effort. Congratulations 9/10 All-Stars.
The 9/10’ers will play for the championship on
Saturday, 10:00 AM at Rancho Murrieta
The 10/11 team managed to stay alive with a convincing win over Pocket LL 17-0. The kids didn’t forget their bats tonight, hammering out 12 hits in only three offensive innings. They got plenty of extra-base hits with doubles from Noah Justin, Ben Blanchard-Saiger, and Michael Kuhlman, and a triple from Cruz Alvarez-Machado. Kyle Rudd was, again, his usual “nasty” self – striking out eight batters in four innings. In eight innings of All-Star work Kyle has yet to give up a run. Heck – he has not even allowed anyone to get to second base!
The 10/11 gang will play Cosumnes River on
Saturday, 10:00 AM at Airport
Wednesday, July 11, 2007
07:27 AM
Last night the 9/10 All-Stars kept on a roll defeating Pocket Little League by a score of 11-5
With the score knotted up at 5-5 in the 4th inning, Michael Valli hit a solo shot over the right field fence to go ahead 6-5 and the 9/10’ers never looked back. In the next inning, Jack Long, doing his best Ichiro impression, hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring 3 runs.
Once again, Noah “Trevor Hoffman” Tait came in to close things out for Land Park. Congratulations guys.
The 9/10’ers will play East Sac on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
Unfortunately the 10/11 Team did not fair so well, losing to Parkway by a score of 3-1. The boys forgot to bring their bats to the game and had a hard time manufacturing runs. They loaded up the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning but couldn’t get their guys home.
Haden Jones pitched a great game keeping Land Park within striking distance. Ben Blanchard-Saiger came in to get the last out in the top of the fifth and set down Parkway in order in the top of the sixth. Land Park got some defensive help from Cruz Alvarez-Machado, who turned in some dazzling plays at shortstop.
The 10/11 team will try to get back on a winning roll against Pocket on Thursday at 5:30 PM.

08:47 PM
LPPLL 12 Year Old All-Stars Light It Up! LPPLL defeated East Sac LL tonight by a score of 13-0. Ben Edelstein, Nico Frank, and Aaron Amaro combined their pitching prowess to shut down East Sac in four innings. Nick Modar turned in another one of his web-gems in a spectacular show of athleticism out in the field. Meanwhile, the offense ran amuck - Dom Nunez got things going with a solo home run along with Carter Giroux who also blasted one out of the park. El Prez was Star struck tonight but Dom gets the President’s Pick for outstanding player by putting the game on ice with his second home run of the game - a grand-slam shot that completely took any wind out of East Sac’s sails. Let’s keep riding this tide LPPLL!
Next game for the 12 Year Olds is Thursday, July 12, 5:30 at Tahoe Tallac against Cosumnes Little League. Come on down, there’s nothing like the force of the LPPLL fans to help bring home a win.
